personal training is particularly suited to:

new exercisers

Starting exercise from the beginning and entering a gym for the first time can be a daunting process. When you have a Personal Trainer, you do not need to worry about how to operate a machine, or how high to set the levels, or the amount of reps or speed of each move, as the trainer will act as your guide throughout the session. I as your trainer will never make you feel inadequate or foolish.

those lacking confidence

Sometimes a client needs the support of someone else to make them feel that they are able to achieve results, as they do not have the confidence to believe this for themselves. Personal Trainers always work with a client, not against them. There is no need to feel inadequate, as I as your Personal Trainer will be there at every step to share your troubles and to give you the confidence to succeed.

those lacking motivation

I understand that, for many people with busy lives, going to a gym is a major effort - and often one they do not at first particularly enjoy. I as your Personal Trainer will ensure that you get the full benefit of your session with me through a personally designed programme of exercise and nutrition, whilst having fun and making sure that when I leave you, you'll feel a sense of achievement. This will result in fast, visible results, which will in turn make the whole process of exercising more approachable and more enjoyable. Many of my clients admit that, if left to themselves, they would not always make their full effort. They use a Personal Trainer in order to get the maximum benefit from their session without short-changing themselves.

rehabilitation work

I, as a qualified and experienced Personal Trainer, have an excellent understanding of physiology and anatomy. This is extremely important when a client has suffered an injury and needs a specific programme to strengthen the injury site for the future. Alternatively, a client may be significantly overweight, and need a programme for weight reduction that can be undertaken safely, without stressing joints or the heart. Having a Personal Trainer on hand to create and supervise the exercise programme will give the benefit of training without the risk of injury. I can take referrals from physiotherapists and osteopaths, and if necessary make referrals to them.

mature exercisers

As we age, we become susceptible to more illnesses or conditions. Quality exercise becomes an important way of maintaining good health for as long as possible. A Personal Trainer will be able to help with exercises aimed at preserving flexibility, strength, and cardiac fitness. · When you have a plateau in your training Even the most focussed client finds that their exercise routine can go stale. They may not be achieving the results that they want, or they may feel that they are not advancing their fitness despite all their efforts to do so. Nearly all athletes hit a plateau in their training at some point, and a Personal Trainer is an ideal way to sort this out. It is not advisable to follow the same routine for long periods as the body has a "memory" and will adjust itself accordingly; a routine that once worked well will often go stale and will not continue to achieve the same results. I as your Personal Trainer will ensure that workouts are regularly changed so that they go on working effectively.

focused training for athletes & enthusiasts

Even a highly fit individual, who is well motivated and confident, will benefit from a Personal Trainer. An enthusiast may find that their programmes have become stale, or may want to focus their training towards a specific sport. As an example, the needs of a footballer will be very different from a javelin thrower, but both must follow a programme that tones and conditions the whole body while strengthening their performance in specific areas. It can be common for a fitness enthusiast training on their own to over-develop parts of the body, while leaving other areas weak in comparison. A Personal Trainer will be able to apply their detailed knowledge to ensure that your sport's performance improves, without being undermined by lack of strength in other areas.

camaraderie

Having a Personal Trainer when you exercise can lead to improved motivation, challenges, new ideas and even partner exercising. This improves the session as a whole and may make a significant difference in achieving your aims. I am at your side correcting technique and motivating you throughout your sessions. I am always just a 'phone call or email away should you need my advice or motivation.
